Principal's Corner

September 1, 2020

 Dear Clinton Parents & Guardians:

Welcome Champion Families to the 2020-2021 school year! As summer comes to a close, we are about to start a school year in a manner which is new to all of us.  Despite the challenges we are all facing, our school district has been hard at work preparing to make this upcoming school year a great one!

All students will start school remotely on Thursday, September 10th at 9:00 AM.  Our teachers are working diligently to develop schedules, lesson plans and course content that will ensure a rich delivery of instruction as well as prioritizing getting to know our students. Your child’s teacher will contact you via phone and/or Schoology to provide your student log-in information for the first day of school,

I want to thank you in advance for your patience and support as we get ready to launch this virtual learning experience. I know you have many questions about what the start of the school year will look like and I would like to share the following details which should help address some of those questions.

Virtual School Day:

Our virtual school day begins at 9:00 am and our dismissal is at 2:30 pm.  It is important, that our scholars log-in (sign-in) to school on time.  Make sure you have charged your device and it is ready for use at 9:00 am. You will receive a Google Meets passcode from your child’s assigned teacher prior to the 1st day of virtual school.

School Supplies:

Your child’s teachers will let them know what school supplies are needed for each class when virtual learning begins. We do not want to add any additional burden to our families at this time concerning supplies so we will be flexible with these requirements.

Breakfast/Lunch Program:

A nutritious lunch/ breakfast (for the next day) will be provided to our students, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm as a “Grab & Go” at the school cafeteria door.  Students, who wish to pick-up the meals, should wear a face mask, and be prepared to return home once they receive the bagged meal.

Technology Updates – MiFi/IPADS/Charger:

Every student received an IPAD or Chromebook with a charger to support their virtual learning experience. Students will continue to use their device for this school year. If a student does not have a device or needs to return any broken or damaged devices a date for IPAD distribution will be scheduled. Parents that need internet (MiFi- Hot Spot), should notify your child’s teacher for assistance. IPAD Distribution Dates are as follows:

Tuesday, September 8, 2020

Grades 1st -5th 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Kindergarten 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

(Make-Up Day – Wednesday, September 9 at the same times)

Parent Meetings/School Visits:

All parent meetings and school visits will take place virtually or via telephone to maintain social distancing safety rules.

Remote Learning Orientation:

We will be organizing virtual parent orientation experiences for all PreK – 5th Grade students and parents thru a webinar.  These meetings will all be held in September prior to the start of school on the following days:

1st and 2nd Grades – (Virtual) Friday, September 4 – 5:00 PM

3rd, 4th, 5th Grades – (Virtual) Friday, September 4 – 6:00 PM

Kindergarten – (Virtual) Tuesday, September 8 – 5:30 PM

Together we will focus on each child to ensure a rewarding virtual school experience. As you may be aware, our virtual learning experience will be on our district Schoology platform utilized by administrators, students, parents, and teachers. You must provide your email address to your classroom teacher. This platform allows the entire district to be unified under one instructional umbrella, which includes the core content areas of Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.  In addition, we will provide virtual learning programs that will build on our goal to increase student achievement. Online instruction in Music, Art, Health/Physical Education and World Language to all students will support the core content subjects.

Clinton School appreciates you all for your patience and support during this unprecedented time. Thank you for your teamwork efforts in working with us to provide a productive and safe virtual learning environment that supports student success. Remember, we are all in this new online learning adventure together and we can’t wait to connect with your family to begin our school year. If I can provide any additional support or answer any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

With you for Children,

Dr. Janet R. Grooms,

Principal
